Research carried out by the University of East Anglia's Centre for Research on the Child and Family found that the psychosocial support gained from using social media was particularly important in tackling feelings of depression, isolation and worthlessness frequently reported by young people in care. Lead researcher Dr Simon Hammond carried out in-depth observations on the sample group about how they routinely used social media in their everyday lives as well as conducting focus groups and interviews with both the young people and residential care staff. The study, based on more than 100 visits across seven months to 10 young people aged between 14 and 18 across four residential care settings in England, highlighted the importance of digital networks in increasing self-esteem and mental wellbeing. . . .

What is it like to be a young person living in 21st century Britain?

The MeeTwo magazine is your chance to tell it like it is and write about how it feels to deal with issues such as exam stress, selfie culture, family breakdown, cultural conflict, toxic friendships and sex and relationships. We want the MeeTwo magazine to offer genuine insights into the highs and lows of being a teenager at a time when the opportunities of technical innovation are limited by the uncertainties of economic and political instability. 

The MeeTwo magazine will be edited and put together by professionals to ensure that it is a high quality production. Journalists will work with contributors to help ensure that your stories achieve real depth and resonance. The magazine will be put together by an award winning graphic designer and will be printed in full colour on high quality paper. The magazine will be funded through Kickstarter and distributed free to UK schools in March 2018.

We are keen to show teenagers that you don't need to be able to draw to be good at art, so you are encouraged to make/find/adapt images or photographs to accompany your work.  

You can also use free picture libraries to illustrate your text. You need to ensure that the images are FREE to use without cost, or copyright, and you need to credit the photographer or the illustrator who created the image.

You can write about anything that affects you and your life, but you will need to be able to write about one A4 page of text. Only the best articles will make it into the magazine.

Global recognition for MeeTwo

MeeTwo app selected as one of HundrED’s 100 most important innovations in education in the world.


The MeeTwo app, which enables teenagers to safely and anonymously ask questions, share advice and use their experience to help others has been announced by global education non-profit HundrED, as one of the 100 most important innovations in education in the world.  

Over 700 innovations were identified through research, events and recommendations over the last two years and they were evaluated based on their originality, impact and scalability.

MeeTwo was chosen due to its unique pioneering status and ability to create a scalable impact. The Multi-award winning app, which provides guided peer support, expert help, inbuilt educational and creative resources as well as links to UK charities and helplines, is already supporting 1000 UK teenagers.

Suzi Godson, psychologist and co-founder of MeeTwo said: “We’re so pleased to have been selected as one of HundrED’s 100 global innovations. MeeTwo was co-created with UK teenagers who wanted a safe app where they could get support with issues that felt too private or personal to talk about with anyone else. We have been amazed at how effective the guided moderated peer support model is.”

The selected 100 projects cover various fields of education from learning environments and holistic wellbeing to collaborative learning and game-based education, as well as a range of themes including small teacher-led practices, ambitious not-for-profit initiatives, viral edtech products and unique whole school models.

Adolescent mental health is a problem that is desperately in need of innovative solutions and MeeTwo is already demonstrating beneficial impact. Teach First Innovation Award Winners

“MeeTwo harnesses the benefits of social media to create a new, safe mobile learning platform, especially for children with a less supportive home environment,” said the judges at the Teach First Innovation Awards ceremony in London on Thursday, March 30th. The award is a nationwide competition to find the next big ideas that will help ensure no child’s educational success is limited by their socio-economic background. Winners receive 6 months salary, and an intensive programme of technical training, supportive mentoring and expert advice.

MeeTwo has been announced runner up in the 6th annual Santander University Entrepreneur Awards in the category “New Technologies and Mobile Applications”. Over 200 applicants representing 90 universities from across the UK entered the competition. MeeTwo was proud to be selected to represent Birkbeck University where Suzi Godson is currently studying for a PhD in psychology.

The prize is a combination of funding, mentoring and coaching from Santander UK and marketing agency Talent Cupboard. Birkbeck University have also committed their support to help make MeeTwo a success.

We are really pleased to have been selected to be part of this year's Angel Academe Entrepreneur Cohort. The programme is sponsored by the City of London as part of their ongoing commitment to support enterprise and small businesses in the City and its neighbouring boroughs and powered by the Angel Academe community of business leaders and investors.
